You probably read the title of this blog and thought I was talking about buy one get one free. I know stores use this tactic as a gimmick but I fall for it, hook, line and sinker. I love getting specials. It's always nice when you accomplish two things at once, it saves time.
I think we are a time saving society. We are always trying to save time, looking for shortcuts. I shutter at the use of this tactic in mission work. Many of us have been on mission trips that involved building a house for someone who didn't have a place to live.
That is where we are putting mission work and helping the poor together, we are trying to get 2 for 1. Helping the poor is a cause, an obligation we have as humans and Christians. We need to help those who do not have food or a place to live safely. It is an important part of our purpose as people, we help other people.
Matthew 28:19 tells us we are to go into every nation, it does not talk about socioeconomic status. People of every income level in all the world deserve to know about the love of Jesus. We must include everyone because the command in Matthew does not single out people by net worth, it says, "make disciples of every nation". No where in that verse does it talk about taking the word of God to just the poor.
Everyone deserves a chance to know about the man who came to earth to die for us. Jesus came so we may have life, abundantly. He came so we could have peace in a world filled with trouble. Jesus came so we could have more in this life. Don't try to get 2 for 1 with missions. Define your work and define your mission.
If you want to get connected with great mission work try one of the Kontaktmission GoConnect trips. Get connected and go accomplish your purpose, help make disciples of every nation. Make a decision to connect people of every economic status with Jesus.
